About Onir:
Born in Bhutan, Onir is an award-winning Indian filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, and editor. His landmark debut My Brother… Nikhil (2005) was one of the first mainstream Hindi films to address AIDS and same-sex relationships. In 2011, his anthology film I AM won the National Award for Best Film (Hindi), becoming one of India’s first major crowd-funded projects, exploring themes of LGBTQ+ rights, displacement, and child abuse.
Recent works include Pine Cone (2024), which premiered at BFI Flare and was inspired by his memoir I Am Onir and I Am Gay (Penguin Viking), and We Are Faheem & Karun (2025), also premiering at BFI Flare.
