Furniture

Bangladesh I 24 mins I Drama I 2019 I Bengali w/ English subtitles

Seeking out a better education for their children, a young family migrates from a village to a town. However, in their new neighborhood, they feel unexpected social pressure to purchase furniture to entertain their guests. The film portrays how the family responds to this situation.

Director's Note:

This film was inspired by my formative years growing up in villages & small towns in Bangladesh, and deals with the stigmas a family can face for seemingly small choices. It explores the family's dynamics and the layers to each character that are revealed by this new context. I try to capture the family's aspirations in an un-dramatized, grounded manner.
