Sharmila Ray, is a mixed race Indian and Filipina writer, director, producer based in Los Angeles.
She began her career in documentary film. "YOU FOLLOW: A SEARCH FOR ONE’S PAST" was a feature that followed her best friend, Nisha Grayson, on the search for her birth mother in Goa, India. The film garnered attention in the adoption community.

Sharmila’s short narrative film Devotee was recognized in the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival as well as internationally at the Jaipur Film Festival. Her recent short Burnt Orange will be making its US debut at the Sidewalk Festival in Birmingham, AL. This year Sharmila is a part of the Rideback Rise circle cohort: An accelerator program for mid-career POC creators.
While making a ton of passion projects Sharmila has worked in costumes, art and post production on union sets to gain professional experience. She shared that experience by mentoring for Notre Dame High School and has been a judge for the Los Angeles Public Library: The Teens of L.A. Film Fest.

She also enjoys painting, practicing the akashic records and tarot. Sharmila loves taking afternoon strolls through a museum and prefers the beach over the desert, but will never object to an outdoor adventure.
