2023 Kala Short English mins 12 Virtual 2023 Canada LGBT, Drama Kalã is a film about a mother coming to terms with her only son's sexuality through music, dance, and the help of a healing beautician. It is a journey of self-acceptance for a Pakistani mother. The lead is played by Pakistan's superstar actress Bushra Ansari. Kalã is every South Asian mothers warm embrace of their queer child. It also chronicles the wider story of young gay people fighting homophobia and invisibility within South Asian and Muslim cultures. Senior among the staff is Shalini, a bouncer who is a single mother. They are told that the smartwatches are tools for safety and efficiency. However, the watches soon reveal a darker purpose—constant surveillance. As the smartwatches begin to intrude on personal lives, harvesting data and controlling movements, the nightclub faces opposition from Komal - a young recruit from Shalini’s village who is extremely resistant to wearing the smartwatch. Berated for her team’s incompetence, Shalini must ensure that her colleagues wear the smartwatch or face severe consequences. In a world where every move is tracked, Shalini and Komal’s fight becomes one of autonomy, dignity, and the right to be unseen. Film Heritage Foundation used the best surviving elements for the restoration – the original camera negative and the 35 mm print preserved at the NFDC – NFAI. Unfortunately, the sound negative was not available. We digitized the sound from the 35 mm print preserved at Film Heritage Foundation. The film elements were repaired by the Film Heritage Foundation conservators and the scanning was done in Prasad Lab in Chennai We found that due to the deterioration of the print, there were vertical green lines on many parts of the film. While the scanning and digital clean-up was done at Prasad under the supervision of L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna, the grading, sound restoration and mastering was done at the lab in Bologna. Both Shyam Benegal and Govind Nihalani, the cinematographer of the film, have been involved in the restoration of the film. Ali has a secret on his throat that Salma diligently stitches and conceals. When news of a singing competition offering a chance to migrate to the other side of the mountain reaches them, Salma is filled with hope, as Ali is a talented singer. But Ali refuses to take part in the competition. Ali’s mother tries to convince him as she hopes, since godly people live on that side, Ali’s secret will be saved and she won’t have to whisper to his son anymore. But Ali’s interest is somewhere else. Ali gets caught red handed to his mother while watching a female song on the TV! Ali’s mom reacts badly and thrashes the TV down and scolds Ali! Finally, the time comes. Ali auditions for the competition, wowing the godly judges who came here to pick the one from the other side of the mountain. Perhaps he’ll win. He gained widespread acclaim for his subsequent fictional works, including Bikal Belar Pakhi and YouTumor. His distinct approach, combining family dynamics and realistic storytelling, has cemented his place as a leading figure in Bangladesh’s contemporary cinema. Beyond directing, Adnan is the founder of Runout Films, one of Bangladesh’s premier production houses. Over the past 12 years, the company has produced nearly 1000 commercials, with Adnan personally directing over 500 of them. This journey helped Adnan to uplift his visual taste on a global standard. He also served as the Executive Producer of Radikals, a Filipino short film directed by Arvin Belarmino, the first ever Bangladesh-Philippine co-production, which had its world premiere in the 63rd Semaine de la Critique at Cannes 2024, marking his entry into the international film scene. But when she arrives to investigate, the brewing political unrest and violent protests throw her off course, and she is forced to seek help from Mamata, a local Madhesi policewoman. By putting aside systemic racial and homophobic discrimination and pushing through everyday misogyny, the women solve the case—but at what personal cost? However, the latter is suffering from dementia. He continually loses his bearings, and has problems recognising his own son. While his party is ongoing, the father embarks on a solitary quest to find his dentures, presumably lost somewhere in the hotel where the celebration is taking place. For him, the hotel is a strangely familiar non-place, completely void of memories, which he wanders through in a disconcerting hallucinatory quest for his missing prosthesis. Dentures is an unusual short film which enjoys gently confusing viewers and thwarting their expectations. Guided by the wanderings of a disoriented father, the film works a discontinuous and ingenious temporality that ends up in an explosive narrative chaos. Restoration Process About the Artist Siddharth Potade is a filmmaker from Ratlam, India, who loves telling stories in different ways. He originally studied mechanical engineering but later moved to Mumbai to work in the Hindi film industry. Since 2015, he's been gaining experience as an assistant and associate director in films and commercials. Siddharth Potade's debut short film, "Dentures," a collaborative effort with co-director Nikhil Lama, made a resounding impact with its world premiere in the International Medium Length & Short FilmCompetition Section at the prestigious Visions Du Réels film festival. He decided to pursue film full-time, and has since produced and directed award-winning music videos and commercials. His debut feature film "Laal Kabootar" was met with critical acclaim and was selected as Pakistan's official entry for the 92nd Academy Awards. Kamal is also known for his work with Coke Studio, including directing the most-watched Coke Studio music video of all time, "Pasoori."

Shivamma is introduced to a nutritional product and, looking at it miraculously bettering her husband condition, she tries to explore it further and learns about its network marketing scheme and its financial benefits. Getting highly inspired at a motivational event, she decides to take the risk of setting up her own nutritional club, putting everything at stake. But one unfortunate event derails all her attempts and also threatens her daughter’s wedding. Despite all the opposition and the blame from her own family, Shivamma’s determination stays unaltered.
